It’s spring, and it’s time to get together in person with the Central Desi community! We are partnering with the Princeton Public Library to host Desi Day on May 17 in Princeton. It’s a daylong celebration of Desi culture, with a special story time, an author panel, and a culture fair that shares South Asian culture with the community.
Those of you who were with us last year will remember that we hosted an author panel and a social hour with samosas and chai as our first in-person gathering:
This year, we are dialing it up with even more Desi culture and activities. Festivities kick off Friday evening with a Bollywood movie, followed by programming all day on Saturday:
Friday, May 16
5:30 p.m. - Bollywood Film Screening of "English Vinglish"
Saturday, May 17
10:30 a.m. (Story Room) - Themed Storytime featuring books by Desi authors and illustrators
1 p.m. (Newsroom) - Desi Author Panel featuring Ambreen Butt-Hussain, Gita Varadarajan, Nisha Sharma, Pallavi Sharma Dixit and Allie Nava.
2-3:30 p.m. (Lobby) - Author Book Signing
2-4 p.m. (Community Room) - Desi Culture Fair with interactive stations; dance, music performances on sitar and veena and other presentations start at 2:45.
We hope to see you there. If you’re planning on attending, reply to this email and let us know! And stay tuned for our next issue, which is all about the Desi EDM scene in the tristate area.
