A quick ask of our readers: Please share this paid fellowship opportunity with one person you think might benefit!

Central Desi is offering $3,000 stipends for community reporting on New Jersey's growing South Asian population.

The six-month fellowship starts in November and is open to students, recent grads and aspiring/existing journalists. You don’t have to be based in New Jersey or be South Asian to qualify, but preference will be given to candidates familiar with the community.

Our inaugural fellows will tell the story of this community through articles, audio, video and social. If you want to engage local communities in nuanced storytelling that reflects their lived experiences, this is for you.

The fellows will work closely with experienced editors who have decades of experience in traditional newsrooms and as journalism educators. Together, they will produce journalism on issues such as education, housing, politics, culture and social dynamics.

By the end, fellows will have:

  • reported and written monthly articles for publication on Central Desi and partner sites,

  • leveraged social media to distribute journalism and news to a targeted audience,

  • collaborated with an editorial team to brainstorm ideas and see them through, and

  • received training on community journalism and multimedia storytelling methods.

If you know someone who would love this opportunity, please forward this email to them. Apply by filling out this short form by Sept. 30!
